OUR MAJOR ROADS
We all use our local roads and highways to access work, school, healthcare, sports and entertainment. And we all want the roads that we use to be safe and congestion free. But this is not the case for a number of major roads in Logan.
The M1 slows to a crawl during morning and afternoon peak periods due to heavy traffic. Motorists are stuck in standstill traffic for long periods, sometimes hours. Merging conditions are dangerous with buses merging into the flow of traffic and the number of lanes changing continuously on the Springwood stretch of the M1.
The Mt Lindesay Hwy has claimed four lives already this year. There have been too many accidents to count. Those who use this road regularly know how unsafe it can be with five different speed zones, bus stops, traffic lights and drive ways entering directly into traffic.
Congestion on Waterford Tamborine Road is already a major issue, with 14,000 vehicles using this single lane road every day through Waterford, Buccan, Logan Village and Yarrabilba. Roads in and around Logan Village become gridlocked during peak hour and at school drop off and pick up, affecting access to local shops and services.
Safe and congestion-free roads are not only about getting from A to B. They are about being able to move around in your community freely and easily. Time spent in traffic is time that you could be spending with family and friends.
If you're sick of unsafe and congested major roads in Logan tell your candidate that it's time for Logan's fair share.
